Grieghallen is Bergen´s main concert
hall and famous landmark, known for
its great acoustic and enthusiastic
audience, but also a place fot the big
occations. It is located just behind the
KODE museums.
The building was designed by Danish
architect Knud Munk, an apprentice of
Arne Jacobsen, who is also known for
other signal buildings like the Tycho
Brahe Planetarium by Søerne in
Copenhagen. It is mainly built in
concrete, steel and glass which was
unusual at the time it was finished.
Grieghallen was built during a period
from 1967 to 1978, including a
construction break from 1969 to 1975
due to financial challenges.
It recieved international fame when it
was the host for the Eurovision Song
Contest in 1986, but also as the center
point of the annual Bergen
International Festival in the end of
May each year.
In addition to the main concert hall
with 1610 seats, the building has
several other areas used both for
exhibitions, concerts, conferences and
banquets.

One of the best places in Bergen to
have a party is in the famous foyer -
the characteristic tip of Grieghallen,
under the 1166 lightbulbs hanging
from the ceiling. Or if you want
something special, it is even possible
to rent the 800 m2 stage and have a
party here. It also has a combined
underground parking space and
conference area which can seat over
2000 guests.
