Troldhaugen
Home of Edvard Grieg
Edvard Grieg´s home Troldhaugen is
part of KODE museums. It is located at
Hop, about 10 km south of Bergen
and can be reached by the lighttrain
(Bybanen) (+20 min walk), bus, taxi of
car. The bus and taxi stop is about 100
meters from the museum building and
visitor center.
In addition to Edvard Gries villa, the
Troldhaugen Museum area consist of
a modern museum building, a concert
hall, his composer cabin and his and
his wife Nina´s burial site.
In the museum building, you can buy
tickets to the museum, the villa and to
daily concert in the concert hall
Troldsalen close by (from June to
September). The modern museum
building has a permanent Grieg
exhibition, a museum shop and a cafe
which follows the museum´s opening
hours. The cafe has great view of the
water, Lake Nordåsvannet.
Troldhaugen was Edvard Grieg´s
home from 1885 to his death in 1907.
It was designed by Grieg´s cousin,
architect Schak August Steenberg Bull.
The villa is locted on a small hill with
amazing view of Lake Nordåsvannet.
As part of the ticket you can join a
daily guided tour inside the villa (in
English and Norwegian). It is possible
to have a guided tour in several other
languages if you book in advance.
You can also visit the small composers
hut down by the lake in front of the
concert hall. It was built in 1891 to
satisfy Griegs need og complete
silence and privacy
